Day 5 of Challenge

Now that we are up to speed (refer to previous post), this is the study I did for today. It is based off the picture on the left I found on Pinterest so I have no idea who to credit. Three days ago I decided I wanted to study rocks and how to paint them, because lets be honest I really cant/don't know how, so the photos and paintings Ive been choosing have a nice amount of rocks, or in today's case one really cool rock formation. I have been doing other studies on the side so these aren't the only ones Ive been working on, but the ones posted for the 21 day challenge have been specifically chosen for said challenge.

Restart/Update on Challenge

Initially when I started the 21 day challenge, I was totally dedicated.... and then a dreaded cold struck down my energy and left me in bed for a full week and a half. Unfortunately, I had to stop the challenge as I want to regain my strength and just "get over it" before I dedicated my time back to the challenge. Due to the amount of time I was out, I decided to restart the challenge from the beginning (as it should be) to benefit from it fully. I have been posting daily on twitter and therefore will post all the previous days below. My post for today, Friday, (I know...I'm posting this technically Saturday at 2:21am, but in my mind its still Friday because I haven't gone to bed) I will have in the next post.

...and here we go...

Day 1- Study of a painting by Jules Coignet

Day 2 - Another study of a painting by Jules Coignet

Day 3 - Study of rocks from a photo

Day 4 - Study of a painting by Cindy Baron

Day 3 of 21 Day Challenge

Today is Day 3 of the 21 day challenge!

I chose to do a study of Nude in Firelight by Anders Zorn. I absolutely love Zorn's paintings and thought it would be good practice to paint a figure. Clearly I need work in this department and the only way to figure that out is to practice and do these studies.
I definitely feel like my photoshop skills are improving slowly as well which is making me happy…again, practice, practice, practice.

Day 1 & 2 of the 21 Day Challenge

I decided to participate in a 21 day art challenge to practice fundamentals hosted by an artist I follow and admire, Noah Bradley. We are currently on day two and I figured I should update my blog since I haven't done so in quite a while. All the work of the participating artists are being posted to twitter under the hashtag #21days. Check it out.

Noah Bradley's recent essay/article on Medium also explains the challenge. You can read it here:

Day 1 work I did for the challenge:

2 minute gestures and some long poses!

Day 2 work I did for the challenge:

3 color studies painted in photoshop!

Im truly enjoying this challenge. See you tomorrow for Day 3!

Also, on another note, if you check out my twitter, I'm also doing a challenge I created to also practice and challenge myself in regards to my photography by posting a photo a day.

Frederic Edwin Church

Wanted to do a more in depth study in black and white to be able to really practice using
my photoshop brushes to get myself familiar with them. I've never really had the
chance to do that and I'm really glad I did. I know some of my values are a little off but I'm just
happy I'm getting better at this! :o)

B&W Comp Studies

The last few months have been pretty crazy as I have relocated to another state and most of my things including my computer and other art supplies have been packed away. However, I'm now set up (for the most part) in my new place and have begun painting, drawing and studying again. These are just a few comp studies from the last couple days to help me get back into the groove of things. Im hoping to now be more consistent with posting and working.
I know people say that all the time but I'm really keen to get back into it.
Until my next post,
Cheers.
